I still find it hard to believe that the 28th overall is more valuable than Methot

Apparently McPhee wanted next year's 1st + a prospect.

Most folks are reporting that the ask was for next year's first rounder, which more likely than not to be a better pick than this year. Apparently PD did make an offer which Vegas refused, hopefully someday we find out what that was.
I for one hope that Methot becomes their first captain, plays really well and helps put a kink in their tank plan.

Man Sens should get Hjalmarsson from Arizona now.

Hjalmarsson - Karlsson
Phaneuf - Ceci
Cleasson - Wideman/Boro

I don't care if you move Claesson but I'd rather keep him and move someone for him.

I'd say Harpur, 1st round pick + for NH.

How about next year's 1st round pick (likely mid-teens), a notable prospect, plus whoever else they would have picked from the expansion list (likely Claesson or Wideman)? For reference, that's more than they gave up 5 years ago to acquire Methot, when he was considerably younger and didn't make $4.9M/yr.

Now factor in that there's a very high chance that he was looking at 2 more years at most with the team, when Karlsson, Stone, Ceci, and Turris are all playing under new contracts. Why so few people are considering that point is beyond me, but I'd suggest it's possibly the most significant reason as to why Methot was the player left unprotected.

Re-posted from yesterday's blog, because Prock can go piss himself.

This reminds me of the turds fans emphatically stating that by trading away Spezza for scrubs they'd immediately be a better team because they would be better defensively, which was better for Paul Maclean's system, and guys like Chaisson and the other scrubs promoted from within would easily replace his offense.

And then they missed the playoffs. Would have been two years in a row if not for a miracle run by a backup goalie.

What's really funny is that the Senators actually did make the playoffs the year after Spezza was traded, and in that same year Turris outscored Spezza straight-up (which he also did last season). Two years after that, they went on the 2nd longest playoff run in team history on the strength of forward depth and team defence. Meanwhile, Spezza has only been to the playoffs in 1 of his 3 years in Dallas, on a team that was supposedly in more of a win-now mode.

Maybe try "looking things up" next time.

My favorite part is that he actually compared the impact of a ppg center to that of a 12 or dman

I'm mixed about the Shane Bowers pick... he seems like a decent prospect, but with the likes of White, Brown, and Chlapik already in the system I'm not sure how likely he is to become anything more than an eventual replacement for Pageau/Smith in the #3C role. And given that Pageau and Smith were 4th and 3rd round picks respectively, I'm not sure how great a 1st round investment this pick is. Personally, I might have gone with one of Conor Timmins or Henri Jokiharju, because I tend to be keen on the idea of RH defence prospects.

Still, building depth at centre is also never a bad thing, so we'll see how he adjusts to the NCAA level next year. It's also quite possible that adding Bowers to the prospect system will free up one of the previously mentioned prospects (White, Brown, Chlapik) for a possible trade to improve other areas.

He's from the same area as Crosby, Macinnon, Marchand etc.. He works out with them/ practices in the summer. I think this Maritimer has some more to his game then people know.
